Pp 238, slight browning + 68 vignette woodcuts. Original cloth gilt, part of spine title label missing. John Gay was born in Barnstable. He made the acquaintance of, Swift, and Pope, subsequently makeing his fortune with the Beggar's Opera (1728), perhaps the greatest theatrical success of the 18th Century. Rare edition.
