Handwriting in a copperplate style Joshua Jackson was employed as a merchant seamen ferrying ships from Scandinavia to the east coast of England, On one voyage,because of bad weather sought safety in a French occupied Port. On the evening of 11th January 1808 he was taken prisoner.
