Original half morocco gilt, rubbed. Raised spine bands with gilt-tooled decorated panels, rubbed with slight split to one hinge. All edges gilt and all volumes holding firm. Britton's Architectural Antiquities of Great Britain represented and illustrated in a series of views, elevations, plans, sections, and details of various ancient English edifices, with historical and descriptive accounts of each. The artistic excellence of the illustrations secured success for what is pronounced to be the most beautiful work of its kind up to this date. It cost eight thousand pounds to publish, in which Britton held a third share.
